PMW Workshop by English Language and Literature Department: Supports the Young Generation to be An Entrepreneur

English Language and Literature Department once again showed its commitment to train a creative and independent young generation through a Student Entrepreneurship Program (PMW) Workshop on Saturday (2/3). This workshop was attended by dozens of students who were enthusiastic about learning the ins and outs of the world of entrepreneurship and develop their business ideas.

The chief executive, Rifki Oktoviandry, S.Pd., M.Hum, in his report said that workshop was being held again after being stopped in 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “An entrepreneurial spirit is very important because we live in an era full of uncertainty. So, entrepreneurial skills are very important and must be developed,” he added. He hopes that students will be able to produce the proposals for PMW UNP 2024.

The event was officially opened by Dr. Yuli Tiarina, M. Pd, as Head of English Language and Literature Department, Universitas Negeri Padang. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship for students in the current digital era. She added “Being an entrepreneur is a profile for students majoring in English Language and Literature since an entrepreneur has good critical thinking.”

The first speaker in this workshop was Dr. Maruf, SE, M.Bus, M.Phil, one of the Andalas University lecturers with expertise in marketing and business innovation. “Entrepreneurial skills are needed to support students to become humans who can create innovations and provide solutions in society,” he said. Not only that, he also provided guidance regarding business categories and tips for producing an attractive business proposal that the younger generation can follow.

The second speaker was Vinny Nasrul, B. Ed, who is the PWM UNP Awardee for 2020 & 2021. She discussed with students about the experiences gained while pursuing entrepreneurship and how to find uniqueness in a product so that it provides useful value that can be felt to be beneficial. “Because uniqueness aims to reduce competition,” said Vinny when presenting the material.

At the end of the event, participants were given an opportunity to ask questions and present their business ideas to the speakers. The speakers provided input and suggestions about things that needed to be developed or improved in their business ideas.

“A lot of new knowledge was gained while attending this workshop, because it aims to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship and creativity,” added Wahyuni, one of the workshop participants who was interviewed after the event.

It is hoped that this PMW workshop can provide provisions for students to become young entrepreneurs who are competent and able to develop ideas. Through this program, students are expected to become independent, creative and innovative young people, and able to create their own jobs. ( HY/RY)
