In August 2024, a community service team led by Nur Rosita, S.Pd., M.A., a lecturer from the English Language and Literature Department at Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP), carried out a Community Partnership Program (PKM) in the Mentawai Islands Regency. The program was part of a community service initiative aimed at improving education and skills in the region.
The team conducted two PKM activities, both funded and held in different locations. The first activity, titled “Internalization of English Skills for Hotel and Tourism for SMKN 2 Students in Mentawai as Tourism Ambassadors of the Mentawai Islands,” was held at SMKN 2 Mentawai, located on Siberut Island. This program aimed to equip students with essential English skills to support the local tourism industry.
The second PKM program, “Strengthening the English Bilingual Learning Ecosystem in Technopreneur-Based Entrepreneurship Education for SMK Students in Mentawai,” took place at SMKN 1 Mentawai, on Sipora Island. This program focused on fostering a bilingual learning environment and enhancing students’ entrepreneurial skills through English language instruction.
Both programs were designed to empower local students and improve their competitiveness in the tourism and entrepreneurship sectors, contributing to the development of the Mentawai Islands. (HY)
